Omri Casspi nearing 2-year, $6 million contract with Kings, per report

The Kings are bringing back the Israeli forward.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Free agent wing Omri Casspi is nearing a two-year, $6 million contract with the Sacramento Kings, reports ESPN's Marc Stein.

Casspi ended up back in Sacramento, the team that originally drafted him, last year and averaged 8.9 points in 67 games mostly off the bench. He's a quality shooter -- setting career-highs with 49 percent shooting overall and 40 percent on threes -- who doesn't do a whole lot else, but he filled a shooting void needed by Sacramento last season due to Nik Stauskas' struggles.

The Kings drafted Casspi in 2009 and his best season was his rookie one, setting highs in minutes (25.1) and points (10.3) that he has yet to top. He took a small step back as a sophomore and moved on to the Cleveland Cavaliers the following year before playing a season with the Houston Rockets. The 27-year-old Israeli can still provide quick offense and is a shooting danger from nearly anywhere on the court.

Though the Kings still have high hopes for Ben McLemore and signed Rajon Rondo and Marco Belinelli, Casspi has a familiarity in Sacramento and is guaranteed to make jumpers. That will always be valuable in the NBA, especially at such a reasonable reported rate.
