Spurs acquire Ray McCallum from Kings, per report

The Spurs continue to make moves, this time filling out their guard depth.

The San Antonio Spurs agreed to trade a future second-round pick to the Sacramento Kings to acquire point guard Ray McCallum, according to Marc Stein of ESPN. As Stein noted, McCallum will replace Cory Joseph as a reserve point guard after Joseph agreed to a four-year deal with the Toronto Raptors.

The 24-year-old McCallum is an excellent acquisition for the Spurs, especially considering the cost is only a future second-round pick. The Kings picked McCallum early in the second round in 2013 and he's proven to be a solid rotation player in two years in Sacramento. He set career highs last season by averaging 7.4 points, 2.8 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 21.1 minutes per game. Joseph played similar minutes for the Spurs last season, so McCallum should slide right into his role. San Antonio also has Patty Mills backing up Tony Parker.

McCallum played well in two games against the Spurs last season, including when he scored a season-high 20 points in February. McCallum provides a very cost-efficient solution to replace Joseph who will earn $30 million over four seasons with the Raptors. McCallum will make $947,276 next year according to Spotrac before becoming a restricted free agent.
