Kevin Durant’s long road back from a foot injury that cost him all but 27 games last season is just about complete. Durant will be competing at practice during USA Basketball’s minicamp held on Tuesday and Wednesday in Las Vegas, according to Sam Amick of USA Today. Durant will not play in Thursday’s scrimmage.

Carmelo Anthony is also reportedly set to practice with USA Basketball over the next two days, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein. Anthony is recovering from knee surgery that cost him 42 games last season.
Durant was named to the 34-player minicamp last week, but wasn’t expected to compete as he recovers from a fracture in his right foot. Durant’s decision to practice is the first signal that he’ll be ready to go when the Oklahoma City Thunder begin the new season.
Durant was a member of the United States team that won the gold medal in the 2012 London Olympics. He pulled out of training camp at the FIBA World Championship last summer, but is expected to be one of USA Basketball’s leaders heading into the 2016 Olympics.
Durant, the 2013-14 NBA MVP, averaged 25.4 points and 4.1 assists per game last year in an injury-shortened campaign.
