Elton Brand is calling it quits after 16 years in the NBA. The veteran forward announced his retirement during a basketball camp at his alma mater of Peekskill High School in New York on Tuesday.

Brand starred at Duke in the late ‘90s before becoming the No. 1 overall pick in the 1999 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls. Brand won Rookie of the Year in his first pro season, but was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers after his second year for a package headlined by high school center Tyson Chandler. Brand would also go on to play for the 76ers, Mavericks and Hawks.

At his peak, Brand was one of the best scoring power forwards in the NBA. He averaged more than 20 points per game in six of his first eight years in the league, but never reached that plateau again following his exit from the Clippers after the 2007-08 season.

Brand, a two-time All-Star, finished his career averaging 16.1 points per game. He earned $167 million during his career.
