Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry can become an unrestricted free agent in 2017, but free agency "isn't really appealing" to the reigning NBA MVP, he told Sporting News' Jimmy Spencer.
Stephen Curry doesn’t sound like someone who’d ever consider leaving the Warriors
Curry isn’t worried about his prospective free agency in 2017, and there’s little reason to think he’s leaving the Warriors anytime soon.

Curry spoke to Spencer at a recent golf event, saying he loves his current situation with the Warriors and that the Bay Area has become home for him and his family, which includes two young children.
Curry is currently one of the biggest bargains in the NBA thanks to nagging ankle problems that resulted in a modest first extension of four years, $44 million in October 2012. He’s stayed healthy since then, blossoming into one of the NBA’s biggest stars and leading Golden State to 67 wins and an NBA championship last year.
With Klay Thompson and Draymond Green locked up long term and Harrison Barnes possibly next, the Warriors have an excellent young core that should contend for the foreseeable future, so Curry is focused on building off the momentum established from their championship run:
“It helps being world champs and you want to continue to build the momentum that we’ve established and I hope to have a huge part of that in the long term,” Curry said in an interview at a golf event to promote Degree Men. “But I think the best approach for me is to try and stay as in the moment as possible.”
The Warriors will likely try to sign Curry to an extension before he hits free agency, but even if that doesn’t happen, there’s little reason to believe he’s going anywhere. He’s in the ideal situation on a loaded young team that plays in front of a packed house every night, and Golden State can offer him the most money on his next contract, which will likely pay him around $30 million a year.
Nothing should ever be ruled out in the NBA, and there have been plenty of instances where a star player has said he’s committed to a team, only to wind up somewhere else. But again, there’s no reason to believe Curry will leave the Bay Area in 2017.
