Good morning! Let’s basketball.
What if they don’t put Allen Iverson in the Hall of Fame right away?
Good morning. We have thoughts on that and more in Wednesday’s NBA newsletter.

ERIC GORDON WANTS TO MAKE YOU REMEMBER: Before the injuries and the contract issues and the rotation drama, Eric Gordon was one of the brightest young prospects in the league. Nick Weldon has a deep reported piece on what exactly has happened to his career and why he’s optimistic everything is back on track. Well worth reading.
NO, HOUSTON! I must agree with the critics: these new Houston Rockets uniforms are not good, y’all.
INTERESTING: The Mavericks almost brought Steve Nash out of retirement this summer. (Desperate times ...) Instead, he’ll be a part-time player development staffer for the Warriors.
HAVE SOME EUROBASKET HIGHLIGHTS: This is Giannis Antetokounmpo swatting Pau Gasol off of the backboard. This is Nikola Mirotic dunking on Giannis. This is Rudy Gobert crushing a Latvian opponent.
By the way, Spain and France beat Greece and Latvia, respectively. Spain and France will play on Thursday with a berth in the Olympics on the line. Two more semifinalists will be determined on Wednesday.
WELL OKAY: This is an interesting essay on LeBron’s basic offensive inclinations and how odd that now is in a league obsessed with motion and passing. It goes off the rails when it asserts that if LeBron doesn’t adapt to being more active off the ball he could become irrelevant in the new NBA.
I AGREE? Lionel Hollins is skeptical that the loss of Deron Williams (waived) this summer will spell doom for the Nets. I pretty much agree and think Brooklyn will be in that same middle-of-the-East position.
WHAT IF: Much has been made about Allen Iverson being eligible for the Basketball Hall of Fame next year, and how that makes for a very interesting induction ceremony -- A.I. as a public speaker is raw, passionate and enthralling. I agree. But why are we assuming that the academy will induct Bubba Chuck on the first ballot? One MVP, no titles, three first team All-NBA nods, low efficiency numbers and (most importantly) disastrously few boosters inside basketball.
I’d vote for him to be in the hall at every chance, don’t get me wrong. His cultural impact and on-court style was extremely noteworthy. But I’m not convinced the secretive voting body in charge of the hall feel the same. Right now, I’d bet that A.I. doesn’t make it in on the first ballot.
Happy Wednesday. All-2000s team coming today! See you next time.
