The New Orleans Pelicans have unveiled new alternate jerseys for the 2015-16 season, and boy, they are something.
The Pelicans brought back their weird Mardi Gras jerseys
At least the King Cake Baby is not on them.

Inspired by Mardi Gras, the jerseys are purple, green and yellow. The Pelicans last wore these in 2012-13, but then they were retired. Now, they’re back.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, they are also sleeved and the green makes it look like the players are wearing backpacks.

— Jim Strickland III (@Jimmer_III) septiembre 17, 2015 Unlike the Rockets' new gear or the Clippers' atrocities, there's at least an explanation for the colors. The franchise changed its name from the Hornets to the more regionally appropriate Pelicans in 2013. Other than the terrifying first version of their mascot, the re-branding was largely a success.
Everything about it was geared toward emphasizing that the team belongs to the city. After rumors of relocation, it’s understandable for ownership to try to reassure the locals that the team is here to stay. The Pelicans have done so in the past by promoting local customs that seem bizarre to outsiders.

Bringing back the Mardi Gras jerseys is another step in that direction. The team will only use them for select occasions and at least they are not neon green, so we can’t complain.
