Baron Davis making return to basketball in the NBA D-League

The 36-year-old has yet to sign, but his return to the court is imminent, according to reports.

Baron Davis is making a comeback. The two-time NBA All-Star hasn't played in the league since tearing a knee ligament with the New York Knicks in 2012, but Davis plans on signing with the D-League soon and making his debut after Jan. 20, his agent told Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports.

Davis averaged 16.1 points and 7.2 assists per game in his 13-year NBA career, playing for stints with the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Charlotte and New Orleans Hornets, Cleveland Cavaliers and the Knicks. He made the playoffs seven times, but injured his knee in the 2012 playoffs with the Knicks.

Now, a return to the NBA is on his mind. “He is looking forward to playing in the D-League and showing teams what he is capable of,” Davis’ agent, Todd Ramasar, told Yahoo! Sports. “He feels that the timing is right. More than anything Baron has put in the training and is confident in his body. He feels he is ready to return to the NBA.”

Once Davis signs a D-League contract, he will be placed into the league's player pool. He would then be selected based on the waiver preference order. The Mavericks' D-League affiliate has expressed interest.

Davis showed he hadn’t lost much in the Drew League in Los Angeles this past summer. The path back to the NBA won’t be easy, but Davis is at least at a starting point.
