Blake Griffin may have broken his hand in altercation with Clippers staffer, according to report

The Clippers’ star will be out of action for a lot longer after getting into a fight with an equipment staffer, but that may be the least of his problems.

Blake Griffin has been out of action since Dec. 26 rehabbing a torn quadriceps muscle. He was slated to return to action soon. Instead, he's been sent home from the Clippers' current road trip, according to ESPN's Marc Stein and Ramona Shelburne, to deal with a potentially broken hand.

Stein and Shelburne haven’t revealed exactly how Griffin fractured his hand, except to say the injury occurred in a “team-related incident.” However, initial reports suggested it happened during an altercation with a team staffer. Dan Woike of the Orange County Register now reports the big man was involved in an “off-court incident with a team staff member,” while ESPN’s Michael Eaves reports that Griffin hit a team equipment staff “multiple times” outside of a restaurant in Toronto.

This isn't good news for the Clippers, who sit in the No. 4 position in the Western Conference standings. Los Angeles has gone 11-3 during Griffin's absence, but ESPN reports that Griffin could miss "weeks" while his hand recovers.

L.A. has two games left on its current Eastern road swing (Indiana on Tuesday, Atlanta on Wednesday) before returning home. The Clippers have nine games remaining before a long All-Star break that begins Feb. 11. Of those nine games, five are against teams above .500. Four of those five games are on the road.
