As for what we're doing in this space: The goal here will be to direct your attention toward some players who you might not otherwise consider. If you're here and reading this, then you already know that LeBron James is really good. But when filling out a roster you can't just pick out stars. You'll blow your cap and get stuck praying to the basketball gods that a guy like Kosta Koufos gets into the game. No, if you want to win, you have to take advantage of certain matchups — and in order to do that you have to know where to look. That's what we're here for. Also, this space is going to be used to give you advice for the games on Sunday, Jan. 31. So, with that, let's get started.
3 players to target
Kemba Walker, PG, Hornets ($8,600): Walker is having the best season of his career. He's averaging a career high 20.4 points and shooting more efficiently than he ever has. On Sunday he gets to take on a weak Lakers team that is surrendering a league-worst 45.7 FanDuel points to opposing point guards per game (via RotoWire). A 30-point evening could certainly be in play, especially with Nic Batum ruled out for Charlotte.
Chandler Parsons, SF, Mavericks ($6,700): Parsons appears to have, finally, fully recovered from his offseason knee surgery. He's averaging 24.3 points, 7.5 boards and 2.7 assists over his last six games and is seeing more than 37 minutes of playing time in those contests. That his price has yet to catch up, and that he gets to take on a weak defensive team in the Suns, makes him a must play for Sunday.
Langston Galloway, PG, Knicks ($4,500): Galloway is averaging 14.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists over his last three games, since seeing a bump in playing time due to Jose Calderon's injury. Calderon could return to the court Sunday, but the matchup, against the high-powered Warriors, is a tough one for him. The Knicks are going to need Galloway on the floor for defensive reasons, which means he should be able to put up around 30 FanDuel points once again.
3 players to avoid
Al Horford, C, Hawks ($7,500): It's been a down season for Horford overall, and he's averaging just 15.7 points and 7.3 rebounds over his last 15 games. On Sunday he faces a Miami team that plays slow and is one of the best defensive units in the league. None of that bodes well for Horford.
Isaiah Thomas, PG, Celtics ($7,800): Thomas is dealing with an ankle injury which has sapped some of his explosiveness. He's averaging just 15 points and turned the ball over eight times over his last two games and on Sunday faces a Magic team with a bunch of tough and athletic perimeter defenders who could make life difficult for him.
Jeff Teague, PG, Hawks ($5,600): Again, the Hawks face a Miami team that is great defensively and plays a slow pace. In fact, only one team is surrendering fewer FanDuel points to opposing point guards than the Heat. Couple that with the fact that Teauge is losing playing time to Dennis Schroeder and is now reportedly on the trade block and you have a player who you should want no part of.
Other Notables
Only three teams are giving up more FanDuel points per night to opposing point guards that the Minnesota Timberwolves, which bodes well for Damian Lillard on Sunday. ... Kristaps Porzingis only played 24 minutes on Friday as he was recovering from an illness. That should make him well rested for the Knicks' Sunday night game against the Warriors, once which they'll need him on the floor for. ... Speaking of the Knicks, be wary of relying on Carmelo Anthony, who will have to deal with the defense of Draymond Green.
