LeBron James is endorsing Hillary Clinton to be the next president of the United States. James wrote an 850-word editorial published at Business Insider that states why he believes Clinton is the right person to lead the country over the next four years.

“We need a president who understands our community and will build on the legacy of President Obama,” James writes. “So let’s register to vote, show up to the polls, and vote for Hillary Clinton.”

James begins by detailing his experience growing up in poverty in a single-parent household. He writes that his mission has become helping the underprivileged youth of Akron through the LeBron James Family Foundation, Wheels for Education, and Akron I PROMISE Network. James’ programs have provided resources and opportunities in the community and paid for the college tuition of more than 1,000 students.

“Only one person running truly understands the struggles of an Akron child born into poverty,” James writes. “And when I think about the kinds of policies and ideas the kids in my foundation need from our government, the choice is clear.

“That candidate is Hillary Clinton.”

James writes about the need to rebuild schools and increase wages for teachers. He writes about the need for more accessible college education. He closes with a plea for peace, and for policies and ideas that unite the country rather than divide it.

“We must all stand together — no matter where we are from or the color of our skin,” James writes. “And Hillary is running on the message of hope and unity that we need.”
