The Charlotte Hornets signed center Cody Zeller to a four-year, $56 million contract extension, according to the Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The deal does not include any options.
Cody Zeller, Hornets agree to 4-year, $56 million contract extension
The Hornets have spent a lot of money in 2016.

The deal comes after a summer of heavy spending for the Hornets, who invested $120 million over five years in Nicolas Batum and signed Marvin Williams to a four-year $54 million deal. The Zeller signing will still keep Charlotte under the tax for next season though, according to the Vertical’s Bobby Marks.
In four years with the team, Zeller is averaging 7.4 points on 48 percent shooting and 5.4 rebounds for Charlotte. The 24-year-old was taken by the then-Bobcats with the No. 4-overall pick in 2013, and started in 109 games.
The big man is averaging 11 points and 5 rebounds in three games this season, and could see a larger role as starter Roy Hibbert is sidelined with a knee injury.
Zeller’s extension is the eighth in the class of 2013, and it was reported in the final two hours before the deadline. Giannnis Antentokounmpo, C.J. McCollum, Steven Adams, Victor Oladipo, Dennis Schroder, Gorgui Dieng and Rudy Gobert have all already signed extensions. Other top picks including Otto Porter, Alex Len, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Nerlens Noel are unlikely to ink a deal before midnight.
