Nick Young will miss 2-4 weeks with a strained calf muscle, per Lakers

The news could have been much worse for Young and the Lakers.

UPDATE: Good news for the Lakers! Young has been diagnosed with a strained right calf muscle that will keep him for just a few weeks, not an Achilles tear that would have been the worst possible outcome.

Nick Young had to be carried off the floor after suffering a noncontact injury early in a game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday.

Young is said to have a right Achilles tendon strain, and he’ll have an MRI on Wednesday. It’s possible the MRI reveals the injury is worse than a strain, which would be terrible news for Young and the Lakers.

Young has been in the midst of his best season as a professional, averaging 14 points in 17 games with the best efficiency of his career. Young is hitting nearly 46 percent from the floor and nearly 42 percent behind the three-point line while playing excellent defense — after frequently being unmotivated and out of control on both ends of the floor throughout his career.

It’s possible Young tore his Achilles, given his reaction and his inability to walk off the floor without help. Until he undergoes an MRI, though, it’s impossible to say.
