Reminded of Sam Hinkie’s genius, the 76ers’ court wept

Good morning. We have that and more in Thursday’s NBA newsletter.

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning. Let’s basketball.

HOLY MIRACLES: Isaiah Austin, the former Baylor prospect who was diagnosed with Marfan syndrome just before he was to be a first-round draft pick two years ago, has been cleared to play basketball. It’ll be interesting to see how long he spends in the D-League. There’s little reason for the Mavericks or Sixers to not bring him in for a look.

AND ANOTHER ONE: Russell Westbrook picked up another triple-double in the Thunder’s overtime win against the Scott Brooks and the Wizards. He also broke the franchise record for most points in overtime with 14.

THAT SAID: Some folks are glorifying Westbrook by diminishing what Oscar Robertson accomplished in 1962. That’s not right.

RIVER OF DECEIT: The 76ers’ floor was quite wet due to a strange condensation problem. It was bad enough that the game was postponed despite Boogie Cousins’ best mopping efforts.

UNICORN PARTY: Watch Kristaps Porzingis and Karl-Anthony Towns trade spectacular blocks. Towns ended up with the gaudy stats (47-18), but Porzingis got the win ... thanks to a Carmelo Anthony winner.

SCORES GALORE ...

Grizzlies 105, Raptors 120
Lakers 96, Bulls 90
Wizards 115, Thunder 126 (OT)
Knicks 106, Timberwolves 104
Spurs 94, Mavericks 87
Heat 106, Nuggets 98
Hawks 107, Suns 109
Pacers 109, Blazers 131

DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH: The Nets don’t have many draft picks, so they need to build with overlooked gems. Sean Kilpatrick fits the bill.

NOTED: Steph Curry says that someday playing in his hometown of Charlotte is “on his radar.” Noted.

WHY WOLVES WHY? The brilliant Chris Herring breaks down potential causes for the Timberwolves’ hideous third quarter performance.

INTERESTING: A new TV documentary series examines sports fandom as a religion through the sociology prism.

RESCUE MISSION: Jonathan Tjarks on Jrue Holiday’s mission to save the Pelicans’ season.

LEAKING: Chris Mannix on the Clippers’ suddenly porous defense.

THE VISION: Top prospect Josh Jackson has made some spectacular passes at Kansas.

NO CHILL: Mark Cuban suggests Ken Mauer should be disciplined for missing a blatant double-dribble in the opening moments of ... Nets vs. Clippers on Tuesday.

SHEA SERRANO’S DISRESPECTFUL DUNK INDEX.

KENYON, COLLEGE? Nice piece by Justin Tinsley on Kenyon Martin Sr. (!) pushing his son Kenyon Martin Jr. to prioritize academics as he develops into a basketball stud.

NEXT UP: We have a really good TNT doubleheader set up on Thursday with Clippers-Cavaliers at 8 p.m. ET and Rockets-Warriors at 10:30. That James Harden-Steph Curry matchup should be something ... unless the two-time MVP gets a night off.

AND FINALLY: Dwight Howard should run more fast breaks, because this is the most entertaining basketball possession of the week and what is basketball if not entertainment?

Be excellent to each other.
