On this week’s Drive & Kick, Paul Flannery and John Gonzalez dive into Sports Illustrated’s choice of LeBron James as Sportsperson of the Year. There are arguments to be made for Theo Epstein, Peyton Manning, or any number of Olympians, but no one has a bigger impact on their sport than LeBron has on basketball.

So, we’re cool with it.

Next, it’s story time, as Flanns talks about his DeMarcus Cousins piece in the Sunday Shootaround, while Gonz takes you behind the scenes of his Laker story that drops on The Ringer.

What do you do with Boogie? We run through trade scenarios and realize that it’s not that easy to find him a new home. Gonz remains enamored with Luke Walton and the Lake Show.

Also on the pod:

  • Flannery hates fun. It’s true.
  • And curses aren’t real.
  • What we talk about when we talk about pot, aka the medical marijuana conversation.
  • We have new game called Better or Worse, which is a lot like all our other games.
  • Flanns thinks the league is more competitive than we imagined. That’s better. But that rookie class? It’s worse. Get it?
  • Gonz adores Nick Young and Giannis Antetokounmpo. He’s also freaked out about the Wolves.
  • We’re both saddened by the Hawks.
