Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to miss rest of season after second shoulder surgery, per report
Kidd-Gilchrist needs surgery again to repair a torn labrum, dealing the Hornets a tough blow to their playoff hopes.

Charlotte Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski. The Hornets announced last week that Kidd-Gilchrist suffered a second torn labrum just seven games after returning to the court from his first shoulder injury earlier in the year.
Kidd-Gilchrist suffered the latest injury after taking a hard fall to the floor during a loose ball play against the Indiana Pacers last Wednesday. He left the game in the second half.
This will be Kidd-Gilchrist’s second surgery on his right shoulder this season. The forward also dislocated his shoulder -- along with suffering a partially torn labrum -- during one of the Hornets’ preseason games in October. That injury required surgery and kept the former No. 2 overall pick out of the lineup until the last seven games.
Kidd-Gilchrist made his season debut on Jan. 29 after missing the first 46 games of the season. The swingman scored a season-high 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting in 30 minutes against the Bulls in a 108-91 win on Monday. He was already starting to make an impact, especially on the team's perimeter defense. On Wednesday, he recorded eight points and three rebounds in 19 minutes before leaving the game.
Kidd-Gilchrist averaged 13.5 points and seven rebounds over his first six games with the Hornets this season. Charlotte is in the playoff mix in the Eastern Conference and will miss its talented forward dearly during the stretch run.
