Good afternoon. Let’s basketball.
The NBA trade deadline was a dud
Good afternoon. We have that and ... well, just that in Thursday’s special afternoon newsletter.

SNOOZE BUTTON: Not much happened as the clock struck 3 on NBA trading season. The biggest moves: Markieff Morris to the Wizards, Lance Stephenson and a pick for Jeff Green, Channing Frye to the Cavaliers, Randy Foye to Oklahoma City and Donatas Motiejunas to Detroit.
MUCHO DINERO: The Miami Heat dinked and dunked their way out of the luxury tax. It will save them roughly $25 million. And they didn’t give up a single core piece or more than second-round picks to do it!
BLAZE ON: Portland leveraged its massive salary cap space into picking up some draft picks. Nice work!
WHAT DIDN’T HAPPEN: Dwight Howard stayed in Houston ... for now. Pau Gasol didn’t get traded to Sacramento. Boston didn’t do anything. Ryan Anderson remained with the Pelicans.
BY THE WAY: The Nets hired Sean Marks as their new general manager about five hours before the deadline. Brooklyn did not make any moves. Presumably because Sean Marks is still looking for the break room.
SOMETHING LIGHTER: The best high jumper in the world weighs in on Aaron Gordon’s dunk.
See you next time.
