As for what we're doing in this space: The goal here will be to direct your attention toward some players whom you might not otherwise consider. If you're here and reading this, then you already know that LeBron James is really good. But when filling out a roster you can't just pick out stars. You'll blow your cap and get stuck praying to the basketball gods that a guy like Kosta Koufos gets into the game. No, if you want to win, you have to take advantage of certain matchups -- and in order to do that you have to know where to look. That's what we're here for. Also, this space is going to be used to give you advice for the games on Thursday, Feb. 4. So, with that, let's get started.
3 players to target
Reggie Jackson, PG, Pistons ($7,000): The Knicks have struggled defending point guards all season, and it's gotten even worse of late. Look for Stan Van Gundy to put Jackson in a ton of pick-and-rolls against the Knicks' young defenders, or for him to instruct Jackson to go one-one-one against the led-footed Jose Calderon. Either way, Jackson is going to have the ball in his hands a lot on Thursday. That he's only going for $7,000 makes him a must-play.
Kobe Bryant, SG, Lakers ($6,300): Kobe is playing his best ball of the season. He's coming off 38-point outburst against the Timberwolves on Tuesday, and dropped 23 against the Hornets the game before that. The Lakers had a day off on Wednesday, so Bryant should be rested. He's also taking on a young Pelicans team that has struggled defensively all season.
Julius Randle, PF, Lakers ($6,200): The Pelicans, who the Lakers face Thursday, are allowing a league-high 50.5 FanDuel points to opposing centers per game. Randle might not start at center but he'll get the bulk of the minutes there over Roy Hibbert, who has no shot at defending Anthony Davis. Randle also has recorded double-doubles in three straight games and is playing as well as he has all year.
3 players to avoid
Andre Drummond, C, Pistons ($8,700): He played just under 33 minutes Wednesday night against the Celtics, and now has to face a Knicks team that has a center in Robin Lopez who can match his size. It's tough for anyone to play back-to-back nights. But all that pounding takes a larger toll on the big bodies. Drummond might be fine Thursday. But he's not worth betting $8,700 on.
Damian Lillard, PG, Blazers ($8,700): Portland faces a Toronto team that is one of the best in the league at limiting three-point attempts. That's where most of Lillard's value lies. He might be able to get to the rim against the Raptors, but for him to go off he needs to be able to make it rain from deep. It's unlikely that happens on Thursday.
Kristaps Porzingis, PF, KnicKs ($6,500): The minutes are down, as are the numbers and you have to start wondering whether he's hit the rookie wall. Remember, this is a teenager who's never played more than 20 minutes a game before. He was going to slow down at some point and it seems like that point might have already arrived.
Other Notables
Devin Booker at $5,400, is one of the best value plays of the night. He's averaging 18.6 points and 34.6 minutes over his last 10 games. ... Damian Lillard can't play D, so look for Kyle Lowry, whose Raptors face the Blazers, to go off ... Langston Galloway has played over 30 minutes in his last two games and is going for just $4,500.
