Good morning. Let’s basketball.
Jeff Green hit a game-tying buzzer beater ... for the wrong team
Good morning. We have that and more in Tuesday’s NBA newsletter.

AND ANOTHER ONE GONE: Derek Fisher was fired by the Knicks on Monday. It doesn’t appear too many people outside of the organization saw this coming. The reviews have been decidedly mixed, though there were extenuated injury problems last season and only a recent slide has really left this year feeling a little sour. Given Fisher’s close relationship with Phil Jackson and the fact that Jackson is a career coach who understands the need for patience, it’s a real puzzler!
You have to wonder how much the Matt Barnes situation played into it. That was embarrassing, even if Fisher really doesn’t have anything to be embarrassed about.
Dan Devine on whether firing Fisher changes anything. Kevin Ding says that interim Kurt Rambis is going to get a real shot at keeping the job. Woj suggests that Jackson actually hand the coaching part over to someone outside his coaching tree.
AND ANOTHER ONE GONE: Reports suggest George Karl is indeed losing his job amid claims only three or four players showed up to an optional shootaround Monday morning and after another game in which the Kings didn’t even really compete. Karl could be fired before or after Wednesday’s game against the Sixers; Corliss Williamson is expected to take over during the All-Star break and run out the season.
ANYONE ELSE? Karl would make six coaches fired this season, joining Kevin McHale, Lionel Hollins, David Blatt, Jeff Hornacek and Fish. We have a few more candidates, though if the Lakers and Wizards haven’t made moves yet, they just might not be willing to drop the ax midseason. It’s going to a wild April, May and June in coaching circles. A dozen openings is within the range of possibilities.

BUT REALLY JOE JOHNSON! He hit the game-winning bomb, but not until after he crossed up Jusuf Nurkic so hard he has to legally change his name to Joe Nurkic. Mikhail Prokhorov was there to see it all and experience every emotion.
OH DEAR: The Grizzlies led the Blazers by two with seconds to go. Damian Lillard missed a potential game-winning three. C.J. McCollum missed the putback, but Jeff Green and Allen Crabbe fought for the carom on that one and ... yep, Jeff Green tipped it in right before the buzzer. Tie game. Blazers win in overtime. One of the most brutal losses imaginable, especially at home.
DON’T TRADE BLAKE: I wrote about how the Clippers should really really not be thinking about trading Blake Griffin.
WHAT’S COMING UP: Aaron Barzilai looks at Golden State’s remaining schedule as they chase history. Cool graphic alert.
THE RUBIO PROBLEM: What happens when you’re a Timberwolves fan temporarily confused or misled by tweets about Marco Rubio.
ON THE AIR TONIGHT: We have a Tuesday TNT doubleheader: Spurs-Heat at 8 p.m. ET followed by Rockets-Warriors at 10:30. Jazz-Mavs should be competitive, too.
Happy Tuesday. See you next time.
