Celtics fans try to lure Kevin Durant with ‘Come to Boston’ chant

KD likes Boston, and Boston fans like KD.

Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

In case you had not heard, Kevin Durant is a free agent this offseason. The Thunder superstar will be the most coveted player on the market, and that means fans of pretty much every team with salary cap space -- see: most of them -- are imagining KD in their favorite uniform.

That includes Celtics fans, as we heard quite clearly during Boston's game against OKC on Wednesday night.

Yes, that’s fans chanting “Come to Boston!” at the TD Garden as Durant shoots free throws. Usually, chants for star players are reserved for home court, or maybe the occasional unique situation like a farewell tour. However, Durant’s free agency is going to be one of the biggest stories of the year, and the former MVP had some kind words for Boston recently.

“I like the city a lot,” Durant said after a shootaround Wednesday. “It’s cold but they love sports here. It’s a family atmosphere I feel when I walk around the city. So yeah, I like it a lot.”

Could this mean that the Celtics are a possible landing spot for Durant this summer? It’s hard to say. The forward basically can’t say anything nice about any place at this point without speculation he might want to move there. Still, everyone’s going to try their best to lure KD from Oklahoma City, even if that means chanting for the opposing team.
