Final NBA standings 2016: Warriors set all-time wins record with 73

Meanwhile, San Antonio merely won 67.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The 2016 NBA regular season is over and there’s something special about this year’s final standings. The Golden State Warriors are atop the league with a record 73 wins, completing their historic campaign to topple the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls with one more victory on the final day of the season.

Golden State beat the Memphis Grizzlies at Oracle Arena on Wednesday to finish the season with a 73-9 record. Six games behind them are the San Antonio Spurs, who would be receiving their own hype for a 67-15 record if it weren’t for the Warriors’ unforgettable season.

The Cleveland Cavaliers finish first in the Eastern Conference and third in the NBA with a record of 57-25, a four-game improvement over last season. The Toronto Raptors, Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Clippers were the only other teams to top the 50-win total this season.

At the bottom of the standings, the Philadelphia 76ers sunk to a 10-72 record, one of the worst in NBA history. They’ll get top lottery odds this season, followed by the Los Angeles Lakers (17-65), Brooklyn Nets (21-61) and Phoenix Suns (23-59). However, Brooklyn’s pick is owned by the Boston Celtics and LA’s pick will go to Philly unless it falls in the top three.
