It figures to be an entertaining set of games between the No. 4 and No. 5 teams in the Western Conference, with the winner drawing a Golden State Warriors buzzsaw (presumably) in the second round of the postseason.
There’s no Steph Curry here, but a Chris Paul-Damian Lillard point guard matchup is enticing, and both of these teams can put the ball in the basket. The Clippers and Blazers rank Nos. 6 and 7 in the NBA in offensive efficiency and have solid scoring depth. Portland has Lillard and C.J. McCollum scoring out of the backcourt and lugging much of the offensive load, while Los Angeles’ scoring is more spread throughout the rotation.
The Clippers won four of the five meetings between the teams this year, and there’s a bigger gulf between them than most four-five playoff matchups. Los Angeles won 53 games to Portland’s 44 and is the clear favorite to win.
