Spurs vs. Grizzlies, NBA playoffs 2016: Time, TV schedule and live stream for Game 4

The Grizzlies will try to avoid the sweep in a series in which they are clearly outmatched.

Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

After two blowouts and a close Game 3, the Spurs are only one win away from sweeping the Grizzlies and advancing to the second round.

The series has gone exactly as expected so far. The injury-ravaged Grizzlies have played hard but haven’t been able to keep pace with the second best team in the league. The Spurs simply have too much depth and superior individual talent to allow room for an upset. If it were a matchup in the middle of the regular season, Memphis would have a shot of catching San Antonio off guard, but this is the playoffs. A sweep was always the most likely scenario and it seems we are headed that way.

Yet you can't ever count out the Grizzlies completely. After two big losses they came out to play with even more energy in Game 3 and went into the fourth quarter with a lead. Their lack of a go-to scorer and a brilliant fourth quarter by Kawhi Leonard prevented them from getting the win, but for three-quarters, they went blow for blow with the Spurs. They could do it again in the do-or-die situation they will face on Sunday. If they keep the game close, anything can happen.

Gregg Popovich will do everything in his power to remind his players of exactly that, to prevent complacency from seeping in. San Antonio definitely has the firepower and the lockdown defense to come out strong and put the Grizzlies away early. In all likelihood, Game 4 will be more similar to the blowouts in San Antonio than the close matchup from Friday. It would be shocking to see this series last past Sunday.

That’s not a knock on the Grizzlies, of course. They have fought bravely despite missing their two best players and will continue to do so until the end. If they have to go down, they will go down swinging. If the stars align, they could push for a Game 5. Even if they don’t, their valiant play is still commendable.
