Frank Vogel has agreed to terms with the Magic to become the team's head coach, according to Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel.

Vogel led the Pacers to the playoffs in the 2015-16 season but didn't have his contract renewed by Larry Bird. He immediately garnered interest around the league, with the Knicks and Rockets among the teams that scheduled an interview with him. He was considered the leading candidate to get the job in Orlando for a while and it looks like the Magic are getting ready to make it official.

Vogel will replace Scott Skiles, who unexpectedly resigned after just one year in Orlando. The Magic showed some progress last season but failed to make the playoffs despite having plenty of intriguing young talent. They will have cap space to reload in free agency but it's unclear how attractive a destination they will be. Having a successful coach like Vogel at the helm could only help in that area.

Since there are still roster spots to fill, it's hard to judge how good the fit really is, but Vogel is known as a defensively inclined coach and the Magic have a lot of room to grow on that end. He also helped develop Paul George into one of the best players in the league, so the front office is surely hoping he will be able to do the same with the young core already in place in Orlando.

Vogel coached the Pacers for six years and amassed a .580 record. He led Indiana to the playoffs in all but one season, including two conference finals appearances.
