Chris Bosh to sit out the rest of the year with blood clots

Bosh decided to sit out the rest of the season instead of risking his health by taking blood thinners.

Chris Bosh won't be returning for the Miami Heat in the 2016 NBA Playoffs. The veteran big man will sit out the rest of the postseason to recover from blood clots in his calf, the team announced on Wednesday.

The decision comes after reports that Bosh wanted to return to the court against the wishes of the organization. A report by Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski claimed the Miami Heat and the doctors involved in the situation advised Bosh against taking blood thinners in order to return to the court later this season.

Bosh hasn’t played in a game since Feb. 9 and removed himself from the All-Star Game on Feb. 12 after becoming concerned about a blood clot potentially forming in his calf. Bosh was forced to miss the final 30 games of the Heat’s season last year after a blood clot was discovered in his lungs.

It’s a tough blow for the Heat’s chances to make a deep run in the playoffs, but not an unexpected one. Miami won the first game of its second-round series against the Raptors in Toronto on Tuesday.

Ultimately, sitting out the season seems to be the most sensible course of action. This is a serious health issue so it makes sense that both the Heat and Bosh are treating it as such. Hopefully the 11-time All-Star will have a speedy recovery and will be back on the court at the start of next season.
