Spurs vs. Thunder, NBA playoffs 2016: Start time, TV schedule and live stream for Game 3
The Thunder need to win at home to put pressure on the Spurs.
The final 14 seconds of Game 2 were a disaster for everyone involved. With the Spurs down one, Dion Waiters was expected to inbound the ball. Manu Ginobili was trying to make it hard for him and actually stepped over the sideline, which is a violation. The officials missed it and Waiters decided to get Ginobili out of the way by shoving him in the chest. Another missed called. San Antonio stole the ball but couldn't convert and lost the game.
While the last sequence could have gone the Spurs' way, it took a terrific LaMarcus Aldridge performance for them to even be in a position to steal the win. Aldridge had 41 points and hit a three-pointer late to keep San Antonio alive. The rest of the team didn't show up. Kawhi Leonard had just 14 points on 18 shots and the only other Spur to score in double-digits was Ginobili off the bench. Their vaunted defense allowed Oklahoma City to shoot 48 percent from the floor as well. Every loss hurts, but San Antonio earned that one.
After getting blown out to start the series, the Thunder needed to bounce back and they did. Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant combined for 57 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists and they both made timely buckets whenever the Spurs tried to make a run. The team defense, which was atrocious in Game 1, showed up and made life hard for San Antonio in the half-court, forcing tough, contested looks. They performed exactly like they will need to in order to beat an opponent that, on paper, is superior.
Game 3 could prove to be the pivotal moment of this series. A Spurs win will prove that they have moved on from the heartbreak of losing in such a strange fashion. If the Thunder emerge victorious at home, they will retain home-court advantage and put pressure on San Antonio. What happens on Friday night could determine how the matchup develops going forward.
