Raptors vs. Heat, NBA playoffs 2016: Time, TV schedule and live stream

With a win in Miami, the Heat could make the Raptors pay for losing Game 1 at home.

Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

The Raptors love drama. After needing seven games to beat the Pacers, they have been to overtime twice in a row against the Heat. Luckily for them, the second time they actually emerged victorious and the series is now tied going into Miami.

Jonas Valanciunas was the story of the game on Thursday, as he dominated his matchup against Hassan Whiteside down the stretch. The 23-year-old center had nine points on five shots in the fourth quarter to go with three offensive rebounds. He also did work on defense with three steals and a block. Without his timely production, the Raptors would have likely found themselves down 0-2 in the series.

DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry continued to struggle with inefficiency, finishing with a combined 38 points on 46 shots. The role players were forced to step up in the scoring department and did, with DeMarre Carroll having one of his best games since returning from knee surgery, scoring 21 points and connecting on three three-pointers. Cory Joseph and Terrence Ross pitched in 18 off the bench and that was enough for Toronto to keep up with the Heat and ultimately beat them.

Miami won't be too broken up about the loss, as painful as it was. Dwyane Wade and Goran Dragic continued to complement each other's games well on offense while their defense held the Raptors to 42 percent shooting. If they can clean up their turnover issues (21 in Game 2) they will be in good shape to beat Toronto at home. They are the lower seed but considering Lowry's slump, they could be considered to be the favorite to win the series.

Everything can change on Saturday, of course. If Valanciunas once again outplays Whiteside and DeRozan has a good game, the Raptors could get homecourt advantage back and prove they have another gear. If the backcourt remains inefficient and the role players return to their typical level, the Heat could take control of the series and put some serious pressure on Toronto going into Game 4.
