One year after sacrificing more than $11 million to unsuccessfully chase a title, David West is giving himself better odds. He has agreed to a one-year, veteran's minimum deal to join the loaded Golden State Warriors, according to NBA.com's David Aldridge.

The former Pacers forward will sign a one-year, veteran’s minimum deal with the Warriors after his financial sacrifice to go to San Antonio failed to yield a title.
Last year, the 36-year-old West declined a $12.6 million option with the Indiana Pacers to sign at the league minimum for the Spurs in hopes of an NBA championship, only to see San Antonio bounced in the second round by the Thunder. His yearning for that elusive title is now leading him to Golden State.
West had a greatly reduced role than the one he has been accustomed to while in San Antonio, meaning his per game averages fell off while only averaging 18 minutes per game. However, his per 36 minutes stayed largely the same as a 35-year old with much improved efficiency. One should expect him to play an even smaller role on the Warriors, though they certainly need bodies off the bench.
Although retirement seems near, there’s still a role for West in the NBA as a scorer, rebounder and enforcer. The Warriors may yet benefit from his toughness and scoring.
