Good morning! Let’s basketball.
Team USA basketball stays golden
Good morning. We have that and more in Monday’s NBA newsletter.

STILL PERFECT: Both American basketball squads completed perfect Olympic runs and won gold over the weekend. For the men, Kevin Durant notched 30 as Team USA put together one of the biggest ever gold medal game blowouts over Serbia.
Carmelo Anthony won his third gold (more than any men's player ever) and officially retired from international play in an emotional speech about America. Here's a great piece from Michael Lee on the Summer of Melo. (Pretty dope nod from Jordan Brand.) DeAndre Jordan had the time of his life chasing gold. Coach K said goodbye to the senior men's program as well; Gregg Popovich will be in place for the next cycle.
The men’s bronze medal game was a bit more eventful. Australia lost on a blown call in the final minute, giving Spain third. Welp! Andrew Bogut, never shy, is livid.
The U.S. women won gold on Saturday, waxing Spain for a sixth consecutive gold. That’s Atlanta, Sydney, Athens, Beijing, London and Rio.
THE LIES AND THE TRUTH: Rodger Sherman with an excellent piece on the lies Team USA tells themselves to keep pushing, and the truth they spill, too.
NOT WITH THAT ATTITUDE: Klay Thompson does not think he’ll ever score 100 in a game.
WELL THAT’S APPROPRIATE: The 2017 All-Star Weekend has been moved from Charlotte to New Orleans owing to the state of North Carolina’s pro-discrimination law.
SUNDAY SERMON: LeBron did ESPN’s Sunday Conversation.
MEET THE FAQ MAN: Nice profile of one of the most crucial folks in NBA fandom: Larry Coon, the salary cap expert.
THE KICKS OF AMERICA: Nick DePaula has a useful deep dive on what shoes the players on Team USA wear.
GOOD JOB, WILSON CHANDLER: Wilson Chandler is out here catching very large fish.
Happy Monday! FYI, we’re going down to a three-day GMIB schedule for the next month: Monday, Wednesday and Friday. So we’ll see you Wednesday! Be excellent to each other.
