THE KID IS ALRIGHT: Nice Woj column on the humility and happiness of Giannis Antetokounmpo, who signed a four-year, $100 million early extension with the Bucks on Monday. Giannis becomes the second 2013 draft pick to sign an early extension this summer, following C.J. McCollum. The fact that there will likely be a new labor deal in place before the next free agency period begins complicates everything for this early extension crew considerably, though Rudy Gobert is the only other one obviously in line for max money. We’ll see whether the Stifle Tower or any others get their deals. I wrote about the topic at length earlier this offseason.

HUM A HAPPY TUNE: The NBA is richer than ever. That doesn’t necessarily make a lockout in 2017 less likely.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: An unarmed 40-year-old black man was shot and killed by police in Tulsa last week. Video of the incident, which shows Crutcher holding his hands up before being shot by one officer and tazed by another, was released this week. Russell Westbrook, who has got to be the most beloved man in Oklahoma after this summer, reposted a passionate plea for justice on Instagram. This gesture may seem small, but it won’t be as NBA players (and perhaps the wider NBA community including coaches and league officials — we’ll see) organize around these issues. (We’ll also see whether certain notable North Carolina basketball stars say anything about a police shooting in Charlotte.)

AND 1: How will the NBA deal with anthem protests this season? Hopefully better than the league dealt with Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf’s protest in the ‘90s.
