There’s been a change in the All-Star voting procedure. The fan vote now accounts for 50 percent of the total, while the media and the players each count for 25 percent. Turns out that your old pal Paul Flannery has a vote this year and he and John Gonzalez break those down on this week’s Drive & Kick podcast.

We both agree that four of the five selections in each conference are no-brainers, but what about that second backcourt spot in the East or that final frontcourt nod in the West? That’s not so easy.

In the end, we all agreed to respect each other’s basketball opinions because that’s what arguing about All-Star picks on the internet is all about.

Also on the pod:

  • What’s the foolproof cure for a strained back? Running 14 miles ought to do the trick. More proof that Paul is, in fact, a dope.
  • You can listen to the pod for our picks, but really folks, do yourselves a favor and check out Kemba Walker. He’s that good!
  • Here’s an All-Star switch we’d like to see: position-less ballots. Or at the very least, let’s honor ball handlers, wings, and bigs.
  • Hot Take I: Mike Conley is the most underrated player of his generation.
  • Hot Take II: Chris Paul is the most underappreciated superstar of his era.
  • Spoiler: Neither one is in our starting five.
  • Gonz tries to insert Joel Embiid into the conversation on at least three different occasions.
