Rudy Gay suffered a non-contact injury in the second half of Sacramento’s game against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night. Gay had to be carried off the court. A torn Achilles’ tendon is traditionally one of the most-difficult injuries to recover from. It can take at least six months for a player to get back into action and even longer than that to fully recover. Dallas Mavericks guard Wes Matthews is among the players who have returned from the injury in recent seasons.
Gay is averaging 18.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists for the Kings this season. King does have a player option on his contract for next season but it was rumored that Gay would not pick up that option but choose free agency instead. His contract is worth $14.3 million in 2017-18.
