Joel Embiid suffered a left knee contusion on Friday night against the Trail Blazers, according to the 76ers. The injury took place in the third quarter of the game after a dunk by Embiid where he landed awkwardly. Embiid was able to jog to the locker room on his own shortly after the play. He then attempted to return to the game, but was taken out again in the fourth quarter by the 76ers’ medical staff as a precaution.

Embiid finished the game with 18 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and four blocks. This was Embiid’s ninth double-double and his third in the last five games.
This is the first season Embiid has been able to play for the 76ers after he was drafted in 2014. Before the 2014 NBA Draft, it was determined that Embiid would need foot surgery prior to the season. Embiid was projected to go No. 1 in that draft, but fell to No. 3 with the 76ers. Embiid injured the same foot in 2015 which also caused him to miss the 2015-2016 season.
