Miami Heat’s Justise Winslow expected to miss the rest of the season after shoulder surgery
Winslow will undergo surgery on Thursday.

Winslow was the 10th overall selection in the 2015 NBA Draft. He had missed his last two games with the shoulder injury before it was diagnosed as a torn labrum, which is an injury that doesn’t heal on its own. Dwight Howard played through a lingering torn labrum when he was with the Lakers, while Michael Kidd-Gilchrist missed most of last season when he tore his in October.
Even if Winslow could have played through the injury, there’s little reason for him to try. Miami is 10-26 on the year and just a half game back of the league’s worst record, with little hope of turning things around.
Winslow’s rookie season was excellent, providing decent offense to go along with athletic, physical defense as the Heat advanced to the second round of the playoffs. He’s had a disappointing sophomore year, scoring more than 10 points per game but shooting just 35 percent from the field and 20 percent behind the three-point line.
