LeBron James told the most relatable story about being rejected from clubs

LeBron James is (kind of) just like us!

LeBron James turned 33 years old on Saturday, and he’s still at the top of his game. He could even win MVP, and become the fourth player ever to do so at his age or older (Michael Jordan, Karl Malone and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar).

He talked to the media on his birthday, and reflected on his inability to sneak into clubs when he was 18 because everyone knew who he was. He also spoke about how excited he was to turn 21.

LeBron: 18 was always cool because you have this false notion that you’re a grown man. You’re actually not, but you have this false notion. I turned 18 during my senior year and I thought I was ready, but I was nowhere near ready.

Twenty-one was cool. People knew my story for so long there was always certain clubs that I’d go to and they’d be like ‘Come on LeBron, we know you’re not 21. We can’t let you in and mess up our liquor license.’ So 21 was pretty cool, especially when I went to Vegas, because I was playing with USA basketball so much. When I turned 21, I went to Vegas that summer, and I was like, ‘I’m back,’ and I was so happy to show my card. I was like, ‘BOOM! Aight then, I’m 21, let me up in here.’

Reporter: Can you tell us about your fake ID?

LeBron: Nah, I didn’t ever have one of those. I wish. Who was I gonna be?

He can enjoy all the wine he wants now, though!

James has seemingly always been mature beyond on his years, tackling social issues and even a feud with the President of the United States recently.

He talked about how much he’s learned over the last 10 years.

LeBron: I’m 33 years old, and the way I grew up, not many guys made it past 18. So I’m blessed to be in this position where I am today. I don’t take this moment for granted.

Happy birthday, LeBron!
