Of all the travel options to get from point A to point B, Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol is going old school: he’s going to drive. But it’s not just any kind of drive — it’s a drive from Memphis to New Orleans for the 2017 NBA All-Star Game.

Must be spacious.

And the 7’1 Gasol is whipping his new Tesla a few states over, according to the Memphis Commercial-Appeal’s Chris Herrington, and he “hopes he’s able to find some charging stations” along the way.
Gasol was named a reserve to the Western Conference All-Star team, and instead of flying or taking a charter bus, the Grizzlies big man is driving down south. That’s a six-hour ride across multiple states the 32-year-old Spaniard has committed to driving alone.
Here’s a Google map of Gasol’s drive, assuming he starts out at the Grizzlies’ arena and ends at Smoothie King Center, home to the New Orleans Pelicans.
It looks like a straight shot and smooth sailing for Gasol right up until he gets past Jackson, Miss. At that point, there are quite a few construction zones and unfortunate incidents set to delay his arrival.
His ride should be under six hours, unless he takes the scenic route, closer to the Arkansas side of town. In that case, he can expect a 6.5-hour drive, and that’s a best-case scenario.
Gasol signed a five-year deal with $113 million two summers ago. Why not just take an Uber?
