Nuggets’ ‘monster’ trade offer for Paul George didn’t go anywhere, according to report

George wasn’t sold on Denver’s path to the NBA Finals and likely wouldn’t commit long-term.

The Denver Nuggets made a ‘monster’ offer to the Indiana Pacers trying to obtain Paul George, but the talks reportedly went nowhere, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein. One of the problems is that George reportedly was not interested in committing to Denver long-term.

George ultimately did not get traded before the deadline. The Boston Celtics were (and still are) clearly the team who had the best chance to trade for the superstar, by far boasting the most trade assets in the league. George wasn’t sold on Denver’s path to the finals in the Western Conference.

The Nuggets have a number of tradeable veterans, including Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, and Kenneth Faried, as well as several young players who would likely be expendable in a blockbuster trade for George, such as Gary Harris, Emmanuel Mudiay, and perhaps even Jamal Murray. There’s zero chance that the Nuggets would have been interested in trading Nikola Jokic, however, the team’s emerging superstar. Without being able to offer him, it’s not a real surprise Denver’s offer fell through.

The only first-round picks that Denver could have traded was their own, too, although they are owed three second-round picks over the next two seasons.
