Kevin Durant injury will not end his season

Durant left Tuesday’s game with a knee injury and underwent an MRI. Reports suggest those around Durant fear a serious injury, but it wasn’t as bad as expected

Kevin Durant has a Grade 2 sprained MCL on his left knee and will miss at least a month, the Warriors announced Wednesday. That’s not good news, but it’s far better than what was first feared.

Durant had an MRI on his knee Tuesday night after an injury suffered in the Warriors’ loss to the Wizards. The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that those around Durant feared he might miss the remainder of the season, including the playoffs. Instead, he could return before the regular season ends.

Durant asked to be taken out of the game after Zaza Pachulia accidentally backed into his leg while fighting for a rebound with Marcin Gortat. You can see the play below. It happened in the first minute of the game. Durant tried to play through the next couple of minutes but eventually headed back to the locker room.

On the way back to the locker room, you can see Durant was visibly in pain.

The Warriors have already clinched a playoff spot and have a comfortable cushion in the race for the No. 1 seed. However, the playoffs begin in just six weeks. Golden State can expect tough matchups from the second round on, and Durant may not be 100 percent even if he is back on the court.

In the wake of Durant’s injury, the Warriors signed Matt Barnes, who had been waived by Sacramento last week.

Steve Kerr spoke after the game regarding Durant’s injury and said it is still unknown how severe it is or how long Durant will be sidelined.

Now, the Warriors know.
