Stephen Curry strongly disagrees with Under Armour CEO’s opinion of Donald Trump

Under Armour’s CEO, Kevin Plank, recently called Donald Trump an “asset to the country.”

Stephen Curry, who has a contract with the company, had a different sentiment to express.

“I agree with that description,” Curry said, “if you remove the ‘et.’”

There’s more to it than quick wit, though. In a longer explanation to The Mercury News, Steph explained he thought he was aligned with Under Armour’s values. He was surprised at Plank’s support, although the CEO explained to Curry personally he meant only from a business standpoint.

Plank is part of a group of private business owners working with the president to affect economic change.

Curry stood by his words, but also stood by Plank. However, he did express concern that Under Armour would begin to adopt some of Trump’s other values, meaning values not in line with his own beliefs, or how he has known Under Armour to operate.

“Are we promoting change?” he said. “Are we doing things that are going to look out for everybody? And not being so self-serving that it’s only about making money, selling shoes, doing this and that. That’s not the priority. It’s about changing lives. I think we can continue to do that.”

After being met with criticism, Under Armour released this statement.

However, Curry did not hesitate to say that if he feels Under Armour is going in a direction with which he does not agree, he will leave the company.

“If I can say the leadership is not in line with my core values, then there is no amount of money, there is no platform I wouldn’t jump off if it wasn’t in line with who I am.”
