Russell Westbrook and James Harden cut off all communication with each other during playoff series

Would you expect anything less from these two?

Russell Westbrook and James Harden are known as close friends off the court and have been for many years. During All-Star weekend when the silence between Kevin Durant and Westbrook was deafening, Harden stayed by Westbrook’s side. So what do you know, the two MVP candidates/friends are facing off in the first round of the playoffs, but this time they won’t be speaking until it’s over. Not on the court, not off the court, not even a text message.

David Aldridge said on TNT that “Both Harden and Westbrook told me they plan to cut off all communication during this first-round series.” He followed up with a Westbrook quote about his philosophy on the court in terms of having friends. It’s such a Westbrook thing to say.

“When I’m on the floor, I only have one friend and it’s the basketball. I’ve been like that since I was a little kid. My dad taught me that when I was younger. When you get on the floor, you have one friend — and your friend is Spalding.”

Old school NBA fans should be excited to hear about this development. Not speaking to your opponent? Now that’s real basketball. I think that’s how that story goes.
