Kevin Durant is ‘100 percent’ happy with his decision to join the Warriors

Win or lose the championship, Durant says he knows he’s in the right place.

Kevin Durant says he has no regrets about his decision to join the Golden State Warriors last summer. With his team one win away from the finals and favored to beat the Cavaliers once they get there, how could he not be? After all, we may be two weeks away from Durant winning his first ring.

However, in an interview with The Undefeated’s Marc J. Spears, Durant said he’s confident he made the right choice even if the Warriors don’t win.

“I made the 100 percent correct decision, win or lose,” Durant told Spears. “I feel like this is the place I was supposed to be. I appreciate everything I’ve done before this. But I’m here now, and I feel like it’s a great spot for me to be. This is where I am supposed to be at this point of my life. I’m taking it on and conquering every part of it. I’m enjoying every single step.”

Durant went to one other finals in 2012 with the Thunder, a run that looked like it would springboard Oklahoma City into a dynasty. Instead, the Thunder traded James Harden that summer, dealt with injuries to key players in three consecutive seasons, and blew a 3-1 lead last season against Golden State in the Western Conference finals.

Because of the massive cap spike this summer, Durant signed with the Warriors, who won 67 games this season while dominating the whole way. Now the only thing standing in the way of a championship is the finals themselves, probably featuring LeBron James and the Cavaliers for the third straight year. Durant doesn’t think that would satisfy the “haters” who widely criticized his decision to join Golden State, but he’s OK with that.

“They are always going to talk,” Durant told Spears. “Nobody is ever going to be happy, no matter what you do. Definitely, I’ve got a lot of support out here. We get a lot of support. But someone is always going to discredit anything good that happens. That’s just life in general. Nobody is ever going to be 100 percent happy with everything.

“Somebody is always going to disagree. Somebody is always going to discredit. It’s just a part of life. When you want to do it for each other and for friends and family, that’s when it’s purer than anything.”

Other highlights include Durant confirming he’ll be back with the Warriors next season (duh), expressing confusion at why people were so mad at him for joining Golden State last summer (something he has talked about before), and Durant saying they “tip-toe” the line between having fun and playing serious basketball (also, duh).
