Vince Carter liked Grizzlies rookie Deyonta Davis so much, he “built a room” for him in his house to come visit whenever he wanted, Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale said on ESPN’s The Jump on Thursday. Here’s the clip of Fizdale talking about Carter.

At 40 years old, Carter is the oldest active player in the league. He is planning on returning for his 20th season and definitely views himself as a mentor, given that he’s only two years younger than Fizdale himself. However, he’s still playing superb basketball, make no mistake, and talked to us a couple of months ago about the secrets that keep him in shape and able to play competitively.

Still, this is an incredibly cool gesture for Carter to extend to Davis, with the 20-year-old center being the youngest player on the team and several states away from Michigan, where he grew up and played in college.

“I remember my rookie year coming in,” Carter told The Lansing State Journal about Davis earlier this year. “Trying to learn the ropes, just understand the business, and Charles Oakley came to me and was like, ‘I’m going to help you become a player in this league. It’s a lot for (Davis) to learn, and I’m willing to do it, and he’s willing to listen and was willing to be coached and educated on the ins and outs of the league.”

Certainly, Carter continues being one of the coolest players in the league, making the absolute most out of his twilight days.
