Draymond Green thinks Kelly Olynyk is a dirty player, which is funny considering the source

Green says, “I don’t respect guys like that,” in response to the Kelly Olynyk/Kelly Oubre scuffle last week.

Draymond Green thinks that Kelly Olynyk is a dirty player, saying so on the UNINTERRUPTED podcast with The Mercury News’ Marcus Thompson. He said that in the wake of Kelly Oubre charging and shoving Olynyk in Wizards-Celtics Game 3 after taking offense to a questionable Olynyk screen set against him. Oubre received a one-game suspension for Game 4, which Washington won despite his absence.

Here’s a partial transcript of what Green said, with the conversation starting at the 11:30 mark of the podcast.

“Yeah, man, that was crazy. Kelly Oubre got suspended for Kelly Olynyk flopping. I mean, that man took a charge on a push. Like, c’mon man. Kelly Oubre hit (referee) Monty McCutchen harder than he hit Olynyk! And he, like ... c’mon man, how you gonna take a charge like that?

And, Kelly Olynyk is a dirty player. You do little stuff dirty and you want to take a charge or something. C’mon, man. Oubre (didn’t) hit him that hard and (he) shouldn’t have been suspended. You already kicked him out of the game. So essentially, he’s getting a game-and-a-half suspension for that? Like KD said last night, then they wonder why they call the league soft? C’mon, man. It’s playoff basketball and things are going to get like that. Did he really do something to harm somebody? Like, c’mon man. That’s ridiculous. Like, why did he get suspended?

...

He’s dirty. Dirty player. I don’t respect guys like that. I know he’s not like the greatest basketball player of all time, so maybe you feel like you gotta do that, but you don’t, like ... just dirty. I don’t respect that. He dirty.

There’s a couple takeaways here.

1. Yes, Green might be on to something. Olynyk has a bit of a reputation as a dirty player, much of it stemming from the 2015 playoffs. Olynyk hooked and appeared to pull Kevin Love, who had been dealing with shoulder problems coming into the postseason.

Love missed the rest of the postseason.

2. It’s very, very amusing that Draymond Green is calling a player dirty. Because, well ...

And ...

And ...

And ...

But OK, Draymond, you do you. I do love him so much as a basketball player.
