NBA draft prospect and French center Jonathan Jeanne has been diagnosed with Marfan syndrome, which is a potentially career-ending disorder, according to The Vertical’s Shams Charania. Jeanne received the results Thursday after undergoing an MRI at the NBA Draft Combine last month.
NBA prospect Jonathan Jeanne diagnosed with potentially career-ending Marfan syndrome
Jeanne found out after undergoing an MRI at the NBA Draft Combine.

Jeanne was projected in the mid-to-late first round by Draft Express and other mock drafts, but this news now puts his basketball career on halt, at least for a moment. Marfan syndrome is a genetic disorder that can affect various parts of the body, and Jeanne’s MRI showed an abnormality to his spine that will require further examination.
The last NBA player to be diagnosed with Marfan syndrome was Baylor star Isaiah Austin, who found out four days before the NBA Draft that his basketball career was over. However, Austin was medically cleared to play again two years later and signed overseas with Serbian club FMP in the Adriatic League, where he played nine games this season.
The 19-year-old Jeanne, who stands 7’2, had been rising up draft boards until this diagnosis, which will halt his ability to perform NBA workouts. The Vertical reports that he is not expected to be cleared before the draft.
