League rules do require players to stand during the anthem, but allow something like locking arms. SB Nation’s Tim Cato obtained a memo the league sent in regards to community activism and anthem protests on Saturday.
According to the Undefeated’s Marc Spears’ report, Nuggets coach Michael Malone wants his players to make an impact off the court other than just linking arms during the anthem.
The WNBA has been protesting since last season, and the Los Angeles Sparks and Minnesota Lynx have both protested during the currently ongoing WNBA Finals. The Lynx locked arms in Game 1, and the Sparks have remained in the locker room while the anthem played for all three games.
