LeBron James becomes 7th player in NBA history to score 30,000 points

He could become the best scorer ever one day.

LeBron James has officially joined the ultra-exclusive 30,000-point club after entering the game against the Spurs Tuesday just seven points short. He is the seventh player in NBA history to achieve that mark, and one of two active players — along with Dirk Nowitzki — to reach 30k.

This benchmark also means James is in a club all on his own. He’s the only player in NBA history with 30,000 points, 7,000 assists and 7,000 rebounds.

Bizarrely, James was the first person to congratulate himself on social media prior to the game on Instagram.

(Yeah, it’s something.)

James’ scoring accolades won’t stop here. It is possible that James could retire from the game as the all-time leader in points if he stays in his freakishly good shape. He’s a little more than 8,000 points behind the NBA’s best scorer, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. If he averages slightly more than 25 points per game over the next four seasons, he’d top him by age 37.

The other members of the 30,000-point club are Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, and Wilt Chamberlain in that order before Nowitzki and now James.

If James is able to make it past Abdul-Jabbar’s 38,387 points, nobody knows what team he’ll get there with.

The Cavaliers are a wreck just 24 hours removed from a seemingly unproductive team meeting. They’re also all over the place in trade rumors to improve their chances of competing with Golden State — or maybe even just getting an opportunity to get to the Finals.

But there’s no short selling James’ brilliant accomplishment, which only further cements him among the all-time elites.
