Stephen Curry ruled out after yet another sprained ankle this season

Curry tweaked his bad ankle in the first quarter on Thursday, missed the rest of the game and won’t play Friday in Portland.

Stephen Curry will not return to Thursday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, as the Golden State Warriors star suffered a right sprained ankle in the first quarter and was ruled out.

This is Curry’s fourth ankle sprain this season. He missed 11 games in December after a bad sprain, sat out twice more due to an ankle injury suffered on Jan. 10, and tweaked the ankle once more on March 2, where he was unable to finish the game. Of course, Curry’s ankle problems go back much farther than that — he has chronically struggled with ankle sprains throughout his early career. Though Curry stayed relatively healthy through his back-to-back MVP seasons and two championships, this season has seen a return of Curry’s problems.

Here’s video of Thursday’s ankle sprain.

While Warriors PR labelled the injury as a “tweak,” he was ruled out of a game for the second time this month. Understandably, he expressed frustration with the sprain while on the bench.

After the game Golden State coach Steve Kerr told reporters that Curry would accompany the team on their road trip but won’t play Friday night in Portland.
