Former Sacramento Kings G League forward Chance Comanche allegedly murdered a woman by strangling her with an HDMI chord after the team’s game in Las Vegas, according to a police report. Comanche and his former girlfriend Sakari Harnden are reportedly facing an “open murder” charge in the death of 23-year-old Marayna Rodgers, according to NBC affiliate KCRA in Las Vegas.

Comanche and Harnden hashed out an elaborate plan to murder Rodgers that involved paying her for ‘kinky sex,’ according to the Fox affiliate in Las Vegas. After failing to find someone else to carry out the job for him, Camanche allegedly did the murder himself, tying up both women in the car and then using the chord to strange Harnden to death.

Comanche was arrested on Friday after a warrant was issued for first-degree kidnapping. The body of Rodgers, a 23-year-old medical assistant, was found days later after she was last seen on Dec. 6, according to Las Vegas’ local CBS affiliate.

The Stockton Kings released Comanche following the arrest. Comanche played a game for the Kings the day after the alleged murder, scoring eight points against the Portland Remix.

NBA insider Shams Charania spread on the news on the social platform formerly known as Twitter:

The Kings played the G League Ignite in Las Vegas on Dec. 5.

The police have issued the following statement on the case:

Harnden was allegedly seen with Rodgers that night, and was being held on $500K bail with a charge of detaining Rodgers against her will “for the purpose of killing her and/or inflicting bodily harm.”

Comanche spent two years playing for the Arizona Wildcats before going undrafted. He started five games for the Stockton Kings this season, averaging 13 points and eight rebounds per game. Comanche had a standout performance for the Kings on Dec. 12 just days before his arrest.

We’ll update this story as it develops.
