The Pacers set a meaningless NBA record that will never be broken

The Pacers’ lineup had the lowest number combination possible

The Indiana Pacers were always going to have a hard time living up to expectations this season after they made a surprising run to the Eastern Conference Finals a year ago. Indiana is off to just a 20-18 start this season, but that’s still enough to hold onto a protected playoff seed thus far in the lowly Eastern Conference.

1The Pacers got a win on Wednesday night when they blasted the Chicago Bulls, 129-113. The team went viral on social media during the game, and it was for a reason they never could have anticipated.

A Twitter user at the game looked up at the jumbotron and noticed something hilarious: Indiana’s five players on the court combined to form the lowest possible number combination possible in a basketball game. Check it out:

Ben Mathurin is No. 00, Tyrese Haliburton wears No. 0, Obi Toppin is No. 1, Andrew Nembhard is No. 2, and Thomas Bryan is No. 3. Add it all up, and that’s five players wearing numbers that total three on the court together.

This is obviously very silly, but it resonated with sports fans all over the internet. The Pacers posted on their official account (with no credit to the original poster, c’mon!) and the image popped up on SportsCenter’s Instagram account as well.

The Pacers’ record for lowest number combination possible will never be broken. Beating the Bulls is pretty good, too.
