The Dallas Mavericks stunned the sports world with their decision to trade Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. Doncic never asked to be traded, but Dallas’ front office, led by GM Nico Harrison, felt like the 25-year-old was unreliable because he was often hurt and reportedly out of shape.

The player Dallas they got back for Doncic isn’t exactly a portrait of availability himself. Now Anthony Davis, the Mavericks’ new superstar, is expected to miss a month after suffering an adductor strain in his first game in Dallas over the weekend.

Dallas exited his Mavs debut against the Houston Rockets on Saturday during the fourth quarter. ESPN insider Shams Charania now reports Davis could miss up to a month with inner thigh strain.

Doncic might have been a little out of shape, but he is six years younger than Davis, and just led the Mavs to the NBA Finals last year. Davis is an awesome player, but he’s been an injury risk throughout his career, and he couldn’t even make it through one game with Dallas before going out with an injury.

NBA fans were having at Davis’ expense after he exited his Mavs debut after a hot start.

Read Mavs Moneyball today and everyday. No one has covered the Doncic trade fallout better.

This is all just so dispiriting for Mavs fans. Davis is a great player, but this is just part of the experience.
